Tips for protecting yourself from fraud.
If the IRS or the Social Security Administration wants the
information they have for you updated, they will
NOT call you on the phone and ask for it. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR information
on the phone, even to
someone that says they are from your doctors office needing to update your
records.
If you need a handyman, find a licensed contractor from your
local yellow pages.
Do not pay for for materials and labor before work begins. If a down
payment is required, it should not be
more than 10%. This is the maximum in many states.
If workers will be in your home, secure your medication,
personal documents, such as passports and social security
cards and put away any jewelry and other valuables.
